Choosing the Appropriate Division for Your Player

Division selection should be based on a player's league age, experience, confidence, and skill level.

Players who are eligible for more than one division should base their selection on their level of experience and confidence.  For example, a 5 year old who is playing for the first time should register for t-ball, while a 5 year old who played t-ball in 2024 is likely ready for single A.

Players who are league age 8 and who have played at least 1 year of AA (formerly Farm), and who are ready for more competitive play may elect to register for AAA (formerly Minors).  These players will attend the AAA skills assessment and may be drafted to a AAA team.  If it is determined through the skills assessment that AA is a better fit for your player, you will be contacted by our Player Agent.

Players who are league age 10 and who have played at least 2 years of AAA (formerly Minors), and who are ready for a higher level of competition may elect to register for Majors.  These players will attend the Majors level skills assessment and may be drafted to a Majors team.  If it is determined through the skills assessment that AAA is a better fit for your player, you will be contacted by our Player Agent.

Upper level (AAA, Majors, and Juniors) team assignments will be made in the first week of March, and practices will start the week of March 10th.  Lower level (T-ball, A, and AA) team assignments will be made in mid-March and practices will begin the week of March 31st.  You will be contacted via email by your team’s manager once your team has been assigned.

If you need help choosing the appropriate level for your player, email playeragent@northportlandLL.org

Skills Assessments

All players registered for AAA and Majors (baseball and softball), and Juniors (softball) are required to attend one of two skills assessments.  Skills assessments will be held on Saturday, February 8th and Sunday, February 16th on the turf field at Roosevelt High School.

Skills assessments allow coaches to evaluate the skill level of players in order to draft similarly competitive teams.  These assessments will also help determine which level is appropriate for each player.  In certain situations, NPLL may elect to place players in a division that is higher or lower than the division they registered for if it is believed to be in the best interest of the player.

Please note these assessments are NOT tryouts! Every player who signs up for NPLL will be placed on a team.

More information about skills assessments will be emailed to families with players registered for AAA and above.

Financial Assistance

NPLL is committed to allowing every child the opportunity to play baseball or softball. No child wanting to play shall be turned away due to financial concerns. If paying the registration fee will cause a hardship for your family please visit our financial assistance information page:  https://www.northportlandll.org/Default.aspx?tabid=2754141

Volunteers Needed!

Coaches, umpires, board members, and team support members are essential for player development and to ensure every kid is able to play!  Please visit our website to view available volunteer positions and to sign up.  Our most needed positions are umpires and lower level coaches.  No experience is needed and we provide training opportunities and support!

All volunteers must pass a background check and complete a brief online training before they can get on the field.
